You Did Everything Right. They Still Said No. Here's What You Do Next.
Camp season is happening right now. And every year, I get calls from athletes who went in, played the best hockey of their lives, did everything right — and still didn't make the team. T
his video is about one of them. A junior goalie I work with traveled from the US to Canada for a shot at a higher level. Two preseason games. He was the best goalie at camp. And after the second game, they called him into the office. "You did everything we could ever want from you and more. We were really surprised at how well you played. Unfortunately, we don't have a spot for you." Then they said something I want every athlete and parent to hear: "If you were Canadian, you'd be on the team." Not because he didn't play well enough. Because the roster math didn't work. That's the business.
This video is about the difference between the athletes who crumble after that call — and the ones who figure out what to do next. And how parents either help or hurt that process.
