The World Shut Down. I Was In Russia.
KHL Series — Episode 3. January 22, 2020. On the shuttle to the airport in Beijing, heading to Russia for a road trip. Head coach Kurt Fraser gets a call from the GM. Gets off the phone. "Well, boys, I don't think we're coming back." Everything I owned was still in my hotel room at the Renaissance. I never went back for it. This is what it actually looked like to be a professional hockey coach in the KHL when COVID hit — playing our "home" games at other teams' rinks, with our logo on their ice, with no idea when or whether we'd get back to our own countries. And then the second year of the contract got complicated.
